Ground-down stumps, chased-out root systems and backfilled holes — so your yard, lot or fence line is clear and usable again.
We grind stumps well below grade, chase and pull the surface roots that heave sidewalks and wreck mowers, backfill the hole with grindings or clean fill, and haul off what's left — so the spot is ready to mow, plant, pave or build.

A backyard in Charlotte where an old hedge line and its stumps had to come out along the fence. The owner wanted the yard back without a crater. Same yard, every stage.

Cutting a stump flush is how you get a soft spot under the fence post two years later. Grinding it out is the only version that stays gone.
A stump left in the ground rots, sprouts and gets in the way of everything you want to do next. Here is how grinding actually works, and what you are left with.
Grinding chews the stump down below ground level - a few inches for a lawn, deeper for a replant or a build. Removal pulls the entire root ball out, which leaves a much bigger hole and costs more. For most yards, fences and re-seeding, grinding is faster, cheaper and all you need. When you are building on the exact spot, we tell you if it needs full removal instead.
How far down we grind depends on what is going in. A lawn needs a few inches below grade so you can cover and seed. A new fence post or a replanted tree needs more. A slab or driveway needs the stump and major roots gone deeper still. We grind to the finish your next step requires - not a one-depth-fits-all pass.
Stumps are rarely out in the open - they sit next to foundations, patios, fences, sprinkler lines and buried utilities. We locate first and grind with care around what has to stay, so you are not trading a stump for a cracked patio or a cut line.
A pile of grindings that make good mulch - spread them, keep them, or we haul them off. The hole backfills and settles over a few weeks; we can fill and level it so it is ready to seed. Surface roots running off the stump can be chased and ground too, if they are in your way.
